The current building was opened in 1880 but there was a church meeting on a monthly basis from 1853. At this time Stanground was still a village on the outskirts of the city of Peterborough.
Rev Thomas Barrass, the minister of the main Baptist Church in Peterborough used to come and take services fortnightly with other lay persons from the Baptist Churches in the city helping by leading the other services.
For the first 100 years there was no full-time minister – the church was led by several different lay people. Then in 1982 a lay ministry team comprising of Mrs Pat Anderson and Bob & Shirley Goode became the leaders of the church. In 1990 Rev Bob Goode moved on to another church and in 1991 Rev Colin Bowden was appointed to lead the church and this continued until 1994. In 1997 Rev Michael Johnson became the minister through until 2005. He was followed in 2009 by Rev Ray Smith who continued his ministry here until 2014.
Since then, we have been very fortunate to have members who are able to lead the church in worship. Some are retired ministers and others lay members gifted by God.
The church continues to thrive, and our weekly congregations have almost doubled in the last few years. We are a very friendly and welcoming church and look forward to getting to know you.
